Redemption. Restoration. These two words came to me this week as I cried out to God Wednesday night. Uncertain of the fate of M&M Acres, a peace washed over me. Redemption. Restoration. This farm, this organization has the opportunity to reach not only animals but people. I am not sure when the seed was planted for M&M, but I will tell you that 3 years ago, my Aunt Sue heard a whisper. For our family, that is where it started. She felt led to pray for my mom to get a horse. All logic would make this an absolute impossible prayer. But she prayed anyway. God, if this is your will, make it happen, get Karen a horse. You see my mom, was a little lost. She was here, but years of life in this world can leave you, well, broken, tired, and a little distant. Aunt Sue’s prayer for my mom was born out of love for her sister and she followed God’s nudging. Fast forward a few months and my mom saw that M&M Acres was opening and she went to volunteer. Afterall, she had a horse when she was in her 20’s! She had expertise to offer and a love of horses. A perfect match. What developed over the course of just a few short months was a friendship between Megan and Karen that runs deep. You might be thinking, your Aunt prayed for a horse, not a human, but this is where it gets REALLY neat. Meet Teddy. A horse who was abused and had found M&M. My mom took Teddy under her wing and started caring for him. And that’s when God answered my Aunt’s persistent prayer. Megan appointed my mom as Teddy’s caregiver as a thank you for the hours and hours of help that my mom gives and continues to give selflessly to the farm. An answered prayer.
Redemption. Restoration. It wasn’t an instant change, but one that took place over a period of time. But a daughter notices. I started to see my mom smile a little more, go and do things with friends, and quite honestly, she was glowing a bit. She shared the barn with our family and we all started to volunteer. The real beauty came for me when we were volunteering at an event together. I heard a woman say, I told my daughter she’d get to see her favorite person here! Miss Karen! I looked up to see a little girl run up to my mom and start talking with her. My heart melted. I felt so proud to be her daughter. My mom’s love for animals and people shone bright that morning. You see, this barn, it isn’t simply about saving an animal from a horrible ending. Nope. It only starts there. This barn, it is about bringing beauty to ash. It is about helping those who can’t help themselves. It is about God’s redemptive nature. Bad things happen. Hearts get hurt. But there is always hope. Always.
That is what M&M Acres is about. Hope for animals. Hope for humans. My mind is bustling with ideas of how we can share this mission with others. Today the Board of Directors here at M&M walks forward in faith. Faith in the unseen. It is easy to trust in what you CAN see, but trusting His plan of redemption and restoration, it takes faith.
We’d love for you to be a part of this journey, stepping forward in faith. We’ve prayed and will continue to pray for people to come forward to help in the areas that we need, from leading fundraisers, to mucking stalls, there is a great need. Be a part of His plan! Look for ways that you can help support the farm on Facebook and be watching for a special way to be involved and come to know M&M Acres up close and personal. You won’t want to miss the rest of the stories from behind the scenes!
